DESCRIPTION: As the emerging science highlights the importance of the neural circuits in their role of controlling every aspect of sleep and wakefulness, the role of dentistry is being elevated as a primary care provider of the airway. Evidence-based providers are encouraged to look beyond the structural aspects of airway anatomy and explore the opportunities created by optimizing neurological function. Dentistry holds a unique and powerful role in addressing not only symptom management, but also the underlying causes of sleep disordered breathing throughout the lifespan. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand the role of the dental provider in optimizing the anatomy and physiology of the trigeminal neural circuits and their effect on the expression of sleep apnea 2. Explore the opportunities for efficient and effective modulation of the trigeminal neural circuits through the application of dental appliances and complementary therapies designed to support an improved functional capacity for patients of all ages. 3. Learn highlights of the exciting changes that are underway in the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine as the organization evolves. CONTINUING EDUCATION: The American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP) designates this webinar for 1 ADA CERP/AGD PACE CE Credit for AACP Members attending live.
